Cherries: Mitchell turns down another bid for Wiggins

CHAIRMAN Eddie Mitchell has confirmed that Cherries have rejected another offer for Rhoys Wiggins. Mitchell revealed Watford as the latest club to fail with a bid to sign the left-back after they revived their interest late on Friday. The Hornets targeted Wiggins in March but saw their advances resisted, despite the talented defender declaring a desire to move up the ladder by submitting a formal transfer request at the time. Mitchell yesterday reported that the Championship outfit had come back in with a fresh swoop for the former Crystal Palace and Norwich man. But the Cherries chief told the Daily Echo: It wasn't anywhere near being acceptable. Last season, Watford were unsuccessful with two bids, believed to be in the region of £150,000, for the player Cherries signed for £40,000 last summer. Cherries rejected Wiggins's transfer request and he went on to play a starring role in their play-off near-miss at Huddersfield. But that form did little to halt speculation surrounding the left-back's Dean Court future and Watford's interest followed hot on the heels of failed bids from Cherries' League One rivals Charlton Athletic. It remains to be seen whether Watford will improve on their latest offer but Charlton are reported to have reluctantly conceded defeat in their attempts to buy Wiggins. The Addicks, who were understood to have identified Wiggins as one of their key summer transfer targets, saw offers rebuffed by Cherries earlier this month. After seeing their bids turned down, Charlton subsequently signed left-back Cedric Evina.
