Cherries: Howe impressed by Pitman's work

BOSS Eddie Howe is urging star pupil Brett Pitman to grasp the opportunity as the prolific striker continues to fire Cherries towards promotion glory. Talented frontman Pitman has been a revelation since Howe took the Cherries reins and his goals were a key factor in the club's relegation escape last season. And his fine form this term has spearheaded the surge towards a place in League One his latest match-winning act inspiring the 2-1 midweek win over Hereford United. The mercurial Jerseyman took his campaign tally to 25 with that well-taken double and he will again be tasked with carrying Cherries' main goal threat against Darlington at Dean Court this afternoon (3pm). Howe told the Echo: His work rate and all the other things he needs to do to produce good performances, he has done consistently well over the past three or four games. The secret to his form is he has worked hard at his game in training. He is working hard on his game in training and that's all I ask him to do keep trying to improve and he's doing that at the moment. When it was suggested Pitman's natural talent could take him a long way, Howe added: It could. And Brett needs to grasp the opportunity because a career goes so quickly. All we say to him is make the most of every moment because a career flies by before you know it. Pitman's goalscoring exploits saw him linked with a number of clubs from a higher level during the transfer window, with Championship outfit Peterborough showing most interest.
