Cherries: Howe believes Fletcher is better than five years ago

BOSS Eddie Howe believes Steve Fletcher continues to get better and better five years after the evergreen targetman indelibly wrote his name in Dean Court history. The 38-year-old club captain today marks the fifth anniversary of breaking Cherries' all-time appearance record, when he was a second-half substitute in a 4-2 defeat at Doncaster Rovers. Fletcher remains an influential figure and will be in Cherries' squad for the trip to Leyton Orient tomorrow (3pm). Discussing the frontman, Howe told the Echo: He's very, very effective. When he's fit and fresh, he's a real handful. He brings other people into play and he makes other people play a lot better. The players in and around him love playing with him. Howe added: He's a really experienced individual and he uses that experience really well, helping the young players coming through and trying to show them the ropes. We've got a couple of young strikers in the squad and he helps them when he plays with them. That can only be good for us as a club and as a team because we've got a great leader in our frontline. Meanwhile, Howe is hoping Cherries can convert into victories their performances on the road having played well in draws at Sheffield Wednesday and Brentford. The Cherries boss could opt to recall Michael Symes (shoulder) against Orient after the frontman trained for the past week, but Howe revealed that Shaun Cooper (calf) was probably not ready to return. Orient: Butcher, Omozusi, Chorley, Forbes, Daniels, Mpoku, Spring, J Smith, Cox, Revell, McGleish, Brown, Mike, Jarvis, Tehoué, Whing. Cherries: Jalal, A Smith, Garry, Pearce, Wiggins, Feeney, Robinson, Hollands, Pugh, McQuoid, Bignall, Fletcher, Cummings, Arter, Bradbury, Purches, Stockley, Taylor, Bartley, Symes, Cooper, Stewart.
