Cherries: Hollands hoping for a perfect 10
Published : 07 Dec 2010 07:00:00
DANNY Hollands insists Cherries have plenty of firepower and he is aiming to help soften the blow of losing two ace marksmen in quick succession. Both Brett Pitman and Josh McQuoid have departed Dean Court since the start of the season with the prolific pair earning moves to the Championship after hitting form for Cherries. McQuoid, who stepped into Pitman's boots after the Jerseyman joined Bristol City, played a major role in the club's impressive start to the League One campaign. Despite seeing the homegrown frontman join Millwall, Hollands believes free-scoring Cherries possess a lot of goal threats. Michael Symes is back to fitness, while rookie trio Lyle Taylor, Danny Ings and Jayden Stockley will all be bidding to force their way into the striking mix. Goals have also come from midfield this term, with playmaker Marc Pugh particularly productive since signing from Hereford United in the summer. Hollands told the Echo: We've got goals. We've got Liam Feeney, Marc Pugh, Anton Robinson, myself and there are lots of other people who can chip in with goals. We've just got to make sure we all do our bit to make sure we do get enough goals and win games. Hollands, who only trails Pitman in the goalscoring charts during the Eddie Howe era, has hit three in nine starts since returning to Cherries' first-choice XI. And he has set a target of reaching double figures as he looks to help Cherries continue the promising start which has seen them climb into the League One play-off zone. He said: I set myself a goal tally of between five and 10 goals every year. I've never quite managed to reach the 10 mark yet. If I were to reach it, it would be a personal highlight. Hollands, who missed much of pre-season due to a hernia problem, added: I've been in the team for the past nine games and feel that I'm just about there. Hopefully, I can try to keep my place in the team because there are lots of people that want to get their chance.
