Cherries: Cooper focused as mission nears end

SHAUN Cooper believes Cherries could do well in League One but insisted they would remain fully focused until the promotion mission is completed. The defender continued his comeback from injury by helping Cherries to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Darlington at Dean Court on Saturday. A second-half header from Anton Robinson settled the nerves before Brett Pitman's penalty helped Eddie Howe's stars open up a healthy eight-point advantage over the chasing pack. And with just three games remaining, Cherries are within touching distance of achieving elevation to English football's third tier. But after playing his part as Cherries moved tantalising close to realising the dream, Cooper reassured fans there would be no let-up until automatic promotion was confirmed. The former Cherries captain told the Echo: It is getting closer but we just want to get the job done. We're not taking our foot off the gas until the job is done properly and it is all mathematically safe. The lads have done well and we've just got to keep concentrating. It's a great place to be it's nice and it's different. Cooper admitted he would love another crack at League One if the opportunity presented itself, and said the division woul represent a good challenge for Cherries' squad. When asked if he felt Howe's men would be equipped for the step up, Cooper said: We've got good characters and good people, who are willing to work hard for three points. I think Eddie and Jason's organisation and the way they set the lads up for each game is key. I think, under their guidance, this group would do well. The Dean Court outfit closed in on promotion by seeing off relegated Darlington and, discussing the deserved win, Cooper added: The midfield were terrific getting the second balls and I thought it was a really professional job. I thought everyone was good and it was a good, solid performance.
