Cherries: Club set to celebrate Dean Court centenary
Published : 11 Dec 2010 07:00:00
CHAIRMAN Eddie Mitchell is hoping to celebrate in style as Cherries prepare to mark the centenary of Dean Court. New Year's Eve sees the 100th anniversary of the ground's official opening, when Cherries hosted a match against Southampton reserves. But the Dorset club has designated today's meeting with Hartlepool United as the fixture to commemorate the milestone. Mitchell is keen to see a big crowd turn out for the occasion, with a number of special events planned. It is the 100th anniversary and we need to mark it with a good day, said Mitchell. There have been so many ups and downs in the club and there have been some great games and some great wins for the club. It would be nice to be down there celebrating it all together. Mitchell revealed that Cherries would be burying a time capsule. He said: I think it's great carrying forward a bit of history and preserving it. Among the items to be put into the capsule will be information on the current team and board, pictures of supporters and a shirt signed by the players. As well as burying the time capsule, the celebrations will also include an ex-players' half-time walk on to the pitch, face painting, a Pride of Bournemouth display, Power Strike and a special matchday programme. To mark the 100th anniversary of the official opening, the Echo will be producing a supplement in the newspaper's December 30 edition, which will include interviews with club heroes past and present.
