Carling Cup Reaction - Baggies
Here's some reaction from the Carling Cup match between AFC Bournemouth and the Baggies. Following the mauling at the hands of West Bromwich Albion, Baggies boss, Roy Hodgson was quoted in the Bournemouth Evening Echo as saying: "I am not an expert on League One and Lee would know better. I wouldn’t dream of giving him any advice, he seems to be doing a good job. I don’t think he will have been too disappointed with his team’s performance. They made us play at our very best, made us move the ball very quickly and made us defend solidly. They were still asking questions of us even towards the end when it was 4-1. They were getting in crosses and backing up the play. That was very encouraging so if Lee can continue like that, I am pretty sure Bournemouth will have a good season and we certainly wish them well. I thought they were good. We had studied them as best we could in such a short space of time and knew they had a lot of very good offensive players. We knew they were good going down the wings with (Liam) Feeney and (Marc) Pugh, backed up well by the two full-backs. We knew that would cause us a few problems but I thought we dealt with it fairly well. Being such an offensive team, if you can defend well and keep your shape, you are always going to get chances on the counter-attack because it is fairly obvious players can’t be in two places at once". Hodgson also had praise for the Dean Court faithful: "Sometimes at these games, the crowd can behave a bit unkindly towards the Premier League team but that was not the case. They supported their team without in any way attempting to decry our performance so that was very pleasing for someone who likes football".
