Bench To Leading Goal Scorer
Josh McQuoid reflects of his rapid rise in notoriety from a regular on the bench to League One's leading goal scorer. Before Brett Pitman's departure, Josh McQuoid usually found himself on the bench waiting for his opportunity to come on. Now he's starting matches and finds himself as League One's leading marksman. On his rapid rise, McQuoid is quoted in the Bournemouth Evening Echo as saying: "It’s been surreal. It’s a strange feeling but I’m delighted. I had only scored one goal before this season and even that was a debatable one. It’s hard not to notice being one of the top goalscorers in the league because you see things and people tell you. It’s a good feeling but I’m not getting ahead of myself. Considering Brett has gone and people were wondering from where the goals were going to come, that’s a good stat. When Brett was here, we probably relied on him too much. The manager spoke to us in pre-season and told us more people needed to score. The lads have stepped up and come good. It’s a good sign because we’ve got a lot of players who can create goals as well as score them. I was used to scoring goals in the youth team but haven’t scored too many for the first team. Now I’m back in the groove, I just want to carry it on".
