Cheltenham 0-0 AFC Wimbledon: Report

Town tamed by dogged Dons

Cheltenham's promotion hopes suffered a setback as they were held to a goalless draw at home to battling AFC Wimbledon.

Other than a sparkling few minutes at either end of the second half, there was little to choose between the high-flying Robins and their mid-table opponents.

Striker Jeff Goulding and skipper Alan Bennett were just off target for Cheltenham in the opening 10 minutes of a first half which failed to provide an effort on target.

The home side produced their best football straight from the restart with Luke Summerfield lashing an effort narrowly over before Russell Penn finally forced a save from Dons goalkeeper Seb Brown.

The introduction of Billy Knott injected some life into the visitors and the midfielder curled a 20-yard effort just the wrong side of a post.

But it was the Robins who went closest in the closing stages, with substitute Jimmy Spencer having a header pushed over the bar before Kaid Mohamed - playing against his former club - powered an effort inches wide a minute from the end.
