Smith and groans for York

York were left in the thick of the League Two relegation fight as Jack Smith's stunning last-gasp volley earned AFC Wimbledon a 2-1 win over the Minstermen.

The defender's heroics extended the hosts' unbeaten run to five matches and left the visitors just two points outside the drop zone.

Adedeji Oshilaja's first professional league goal had earlier been cancelled out Jake Hyde in the first half.

Against the run of play, the Dons took the lead when George Francomb's inviting corner was headed in by Oshilaja on 19 minutes.

The visitors' endeavours were rewarded two minutes before the break, however, when Joe McDonnell spilled Emile Sinclair's cross and, following a goalmouth scramble, Hyde tucked the ball home.

Sinclair then posted a contender for miss of the season when he broke away and rounded McDonnell before somehow hitting the side netting with the goal at his mercy.

Oshilaja was inches away from a second before Smith sealed the points in the dying seconds with a stunning right-foot volley from the edge of the area.
