Oxford substitute Jordan Bowery nets winner against AFC Wimbledon

Jordan Bowery came off the bench to help Oxford see off AFC Wimbledon 2-1 at Kingsmeadow and boost their Sky Bet League Two promotion chances.

The visitors began at a swift tempo and took the lead in the fifth minute. After a quick throw-in, former Wimbledon man Danny Hylton pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area and scrambled the ball over the line.

A spell of pressure from the hosts followed and Wimbledon equalised in the 33rd minute. Andy Barcham tapped into an empty net after a Tom Elliott shot was parried by Oxford keeper Benjamin Buchel.

The Dons thought they were ahead two minutes later, but Elliott's header was contentiously disallowed.

Bowery, just four minutes after coming on, put Oxford ahead in the 59th minute against the run of play. He drove forward from the halfway line, skinned Ryan Sweeney and finished across the keeper into the far corner.

Wimbledon, who were direct throughout, pushed forward but found Buchel in excellent form, with one save from Elliott particularly impressive.
