With Steve Evans coming out just recently to test the waters on snatching Matt Tubbs from AFC Bournemouth, the club have in turn come out quite clearly to state that Tubbs is abolutely part of their plans.
Manager Paul Groves is quoted in the Bournemouth Evening Echo as saying: "Matt has proved himself with his goalscoring records at the levels he has played at. You always want goals in your team and that is an area we have tried to improve in different ways. From Matt’s point of view, we want him around. What you have to recognise is that people who do well in their particular area are going to get talked about by other people. You are never going to stop that. What you can do is say that they are not for sale and that is what we have said. If Matt has got confidence and he is determined, they are good ingredients for him to be able to make that transition. We hope he can do that and we hope we can provide him with good service so that he gets those opportunities. Having good competition for places in the attacking areas will help him as well. Matt finished the back end of last season with not too much football because of his injury. He has taken it upon himself to come back and set about his work to make sure he is in good condition and ready to start pre-season. That is fantastic and it is what you want. You have to give Matt credit for that and, hopefully, he will get the benefit of that once we kick off".
