Cherries Chairman Eddie Mitchell insists that the record of Tolkeo Rantie is not a gamble on the part of AFC Bournemouth.

With AFC Bournemouth fending off a host of others to sign Tolkeo Rantie, with Chairman Eddie Mitchell insisting that the Cherries haven't taken a gamble to sign the South African international.

Speaking in the Bournemouth Evening Echo, Mitchell was quoted as saying: "It certainly isn’t go for broke, that’s for sure. That would be a silly policy to take, not knowing each week’s results. It would be a big gamble, too big. “You have to work within the rules and the Football League is trying to make everything sustainable. There has to be a long-term plan and ours is to make it sustainable. We have to look carefully at what we are doing and have to make plans for the future months of this season. That is what we have done and it has allowed us to progress in this way. We are aiming to progress and, to do that, you have to keep searching for improvements, both on and off the field. It is definitely a statement of intent and I think he will turn out to be a successful signing".
