Nov 6 FA CUP FIRST ROUND AFC Bournemouth 5-3 Tranmere Rovers Att: 3951

06 November 2010 21:03
Such a shame such a small crowd came along to see this pulsating match, which ebbed and flowed from start to finish. After disappointment in the last few matches, this FA Cup encounter started with a bang as the Cherries raced in to a 3-goal lead within the opening 7 minutes. McQuoid opened the scoring within the first minute, sweeping home a loose ball, having been set up by Feeney. Just 3 minutes later, McQuoid, again, was found with a lovely ball from Warren Cummings to fire home with a rasping shot. Then another 3 minutes elapsed when Marc Pugh got in on the act with another rasping shot having been set up by Steve Fletcher. At this point an absolute cricket score looked likely! After that the match did settle down as Tranmere came more in to the match, scoring a goal of their own from a low free kick taken by Cresswell, which Jalal will not want to see again, as the ball squirmed out of his grasp, through his legs and in to the back of the net! 3-1 in the 27th minute. A few minutes before the break, Jalal was caught flapping at his far post as Goodison headed home. 3-2 in the 42nd minute. With the Cherries now on the back foot, Tranmere equalised in the 53rd minute when Thomas-Moore netted from close range. The never say die attitude of the Cherries came to the fore as McQuoid completed his hat trick in the 57th minute, with a neat finish past the keeper, which was followed in the 61st minute with a long awaited goal for Liam Feeney who scored from close range. Overall the Cherries deserved to win, but this tie could so easily have gone the other way. Full match report to follow ............
