Murry pleads with Eddie: Stay at Cherries and make history

ADAM Murry the man whose masterstroke sparked the Eddie Howe fairytale has urged the Cherries boss: Stay with us and make history.[LNB] Former director Murry was responsible for giving Howe his first managerial post when Cherries' Football League status was on the line two years ago.[LNB] The rookie boss masterminded a famous escape from relegation in his first season at the helm before plotting Cherries' memorable promotion to League One.[LNB] Murry, who stepped down from the Cherries board in November, remains a close confidant to both Howe and his assistant Jason Tindall.[LNB] And he was among the crowd at Dean Court on Saturday to witness a public and emotional outpouring of support for Cherries' managerial duo.[LNB] Speaking to the Daily Echo last night, Murry said: It was overwhelming and you could feel the passion. People came to support Eddie and Jason and to try to reassure them that the whole town are behind them.[LNB] Everybody knows what they have achieved and it is clear everybody wants them to stay. We saw it regularly last season during the promotion campaign but it was more evident on Saturday because people don't want them to leave.[LNB] The supporters have bonded with a young team and a young management duo and, rather than just coming to watch, people feel part of it. It is something which has developed over the past two years.[LNB] There would be immense disappointment if they were to go. But they are highly regarded and sought after and we would have to respect their decision. We want them to stay but they have their careers and families to consider.[LNB] From a personal point of view, I would like them to stay to help the club make history by winning promotion to the Championship. With the squad they have assembled and the camaraderie they have instilled, there is no reason why that cannot be achieved.[LNB] Murry and former chief executive Alastair Saverimutto appointed Howe on a caretaker basis following the sacking of Jimmy Quinn on New Year's Eve 2008. Howe was then handed the reigns permanently by Murry after two successive defeats had left Cherries in deep trouble near the foot of the basement division.[LNB] Murry added: I never doubted them otherwise I wouldn't have done it. It was a massive risk at the time but it paid off. I knew he would be the right man for the job even if a lot of other people didn't see it.[LNB] When he was involved on a caretaker basis, I was spending time in the changing room and could see the lads were waiting for another person to come through the door. Even though they had immense respect for Eddie, they weren't playing for him at that point.[LNB] As soon as he was appointed permanently, that changed. The squad became united. I knew the lads would look up to him and I have never seen such dedication to a manager. They relate to him and he is wholeheartedly a part of the team. That's why he has been so successful and long may it continue.[LNB]
