Midfield Options Under Consideration

Manager Eddie Howe has been forced in to looking at his midfield options.

With Shaun MacDonald now ruled out for anything up to 10-weeks, having sustained a ruptured ankle ligmament injury during the match against Colchester United, manager Eddie Howe needs to look again at his options in midfield.

Howe is quoted in the Bournemouth Evening Echo as saying: "We can’t bring in anybody from the outside until the transfer window reopens so we will definitely work with what we have got and see what is the best system and personnel to go with. What we do have are some very talented players in that position. Although we will miss Shaun, we have got players to come in and, hopefully, make an impact".

One thing has become clear though, Steven Gregory will not be playing a part in the Cherries future following the end of his loan spell at AFC Wimbledon. Both AFC Bournemouth and Gregory have agreed to terminate his contract, with mutual consent. Manager Eddie Howe was quoted on Gregory as saying: "From my perspective, I would only want to call someone back if I was going to bring them into the team and involve them from the bench. With Steven, that probably wouldn't have been the case and I think it is best that he continues his footballing career somewhere else. I don't know him personally and have never met him but, by all accounts, he is a very good professional and a very good player, so we certainly wish him well in the future".

It now looks likely that Gregory will sign a permanent deal for AFC Wimbledon.
