Magpies takeover saves Cherries from cup expulsion

POOLE estate agent Tony Newmans impending takeover of Dorchester Town could save Cherries from expulsion from this seasons FA Cup, it has emerged. Newmans imminent arrival at the Jewson Stadium has only materialised because current owners Tom and Josh Mitchell have been forced to give up their shareholding, preventing Magpies possible exclusion from this seasons cup. The brothers were handed the reins by father Eddie who stepped down as county town chairman in June following his takeover of Cherries alongside the Murry Group. However, Football Association law, and FA Challenge Cup rule 24 in particular, states that one person or their associates cannot hold a majority shareholding in any more than one club. Therefore, the Mitchells have had to pass over their ownership of the club to Poole-based Newman, who agreed a takeover deal on Tuesday night. Current Magpies chairman Dave Roberts said: Eddies had to get out completely because of his involvement with AFC Bournemouth, so hes solely at Bournemouth now. Had the Mitchells stayed in control of Magpies, however, then Cherries would also have been expelled from the FA Cup. FA Challenge Cup Rule 24 states: (b) no club may participate in the competition at any stage where that club is interested in another club which is participating in the competition or wishing to participate in the competition. The second club shall similarly not be permitted to participate in the competition at any stage.
