Sheffield United are in pole position over their Steel City rivals for the second automatic promotion place after they managed to see off Leyton Orient at Bramhall Lane, even though Lisbie gave the O's an unlikely lead in the 12th minute. The Baldes hit back with goals from Williamson (42nd minute), Doyle (54th min) and Evans (83rd min) to seal the points and a 4-point cushion over their nearest and dearest. The O's, on the other hand is the team the bottom 4 are chasing to beat the drop to League Two. Sheffield United 2nd, Leyton Orient 20th.
It's looking increasingly certain that Sheffield Wednesday will have to settle for the play-offs following a draw against mid-table Colchester United. Henderson gave ColU the lead in the 3rd minute, with the Owls salvaging a point through Llera in the 52nd minute. The draw leaves the Owls 4-points short of automatic. Franchise FC are almost certainly in the end of season play-offs following a convincing 3-0 win over Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park. Strikes from Bowditch (11th min), Powell (54th min) and Williams (85th min) means that Franchise are 8 points above those chasing a play-off place with 3 matches left. If it wasn't for their healthy form at the start of the season, I doubt Huddersfield Town would be anywhere near the play-offs given their recent form. Their latest slip came against Preston North End at Deepdale where Robertson scored the only goal of the game in the 54th minute. Preston North End 14th, Huddersfield Town 5th.
Notts County (6th) still cling to the last play-off place following a 0-0 draw against fellow play-off chasers Brentford (8th) at Griffin Park.
Could Stevenage Borough yet claim a play-off place following their emphatic 6-0 drubbing of Yeovil Town at Huish Park? Freeman put Borough ahead in the 13th minute, with the Glovers' cause not helped when Woods was sent off in the 33rd minute. After that Borough went on the rampage as Agyemang (44th min), Ashton (69th min), Lascelles (72nd min), Roberts (82nd min) and Freeman with his second in the 88th minute sealed the biggest League One win of the day. Like Leyton Orient, Walsall still have a bit of work to do if they are going to survive the drop to League Two. Their cause wasn't helped when Tranmere Rovers visited Bescot, leaving with all 3-points when Robinson netted the only goal of the game in the 62nd minute. Walsall 19th, Tranmere Rovers 11th.
Bury are safe enough for another season as they claimed the all important win over AFC Bournemouth to stake their place in League One for next season. Grella scored the only goal of the game in the 10th minute. Bury 15th, AFC Bournemouth 12th.
Before the start of play, two sides could have been relegated, as it is, none went. Chesterfield's place in League One was looking decidedly dodgy as Hartlepool United took the lead at Victoria Road through Liddle in the 37th minute. To their credit, the Spirites hit back through Whitaker (59th min) and Bowery (69th min) to leave themselves with a 7-point deficit to make up with 3-matches left. Could Oldham Athletic be dragged backwards in to the drop zone at the last minute? They hovver just 6-points above 4th from bottom following a last gasp draw against the side 4th from bottom - Wycombe Wanderers. Morais gave the Latics the lead in the 16th minute, with Beavon (34th min) and Grant (78th min) giving the Chairboys a great chance to win it. It wasn't to be though, as a Simpson penalty saved the Latics from being closer to the dreaded dotted line. Wycombe Wanderers 21st, Oldham Athletic 18th.
The remain game in League One saw a relegation 6-pointer played out at Spotland between Rochdale and Exeter City. The Grecians took early advantage with Nardiellio firing the Devon side in to a 28th minute lead from the penalty spot, with Sercombe doubling the advantage in the 62nd minute. Dale then put on a fine fight back in the final 11 minutes as Adams (79th min), Thompson (81st min) and Kennedy (88th min) sealed a remarkable win to keep the home sides alive for another week. Rochdale 24th, Exeter City 23rd.
