League One Review - Sept 29th

Here's our round up of the action around League One.

Tranmere Rovers were pegged back at Prenton Park as Brentford nicked a late point. Akpa Akpro gave Rovers the lead on the hour only to see Douglas net an equaliser in the 96th minute. Tranmere Rovers 1st, Brentford 11th.

Notts County had to come from behind to nick a point against Sheffield United at Bramhall Lane. Kitson gave the Blades the lead in the 51st minute, with Hughes levelling 25 minutes later. Sheffield United 8th, Notts County 2nd.

Franchise FC are nicely tucked in behind the automatic promotion places following a 1-0 win over Crewe Alexandra at Stadium:Franchise. MacDonald scored the only goal of the game in the 8th minute. Franchise FC 3rd, Crewe Alexandra 15th.

Swindon Town continued their push towards the top with a decent 1-0 win over Shrewsbury Town at the New Meadow. Ferry gave the Robins all 3-points with a 79th minute strike. Shrewsbury Town 16th, Swindon Town 4th.

Bury left it late to salavage a point against high-flying Stevenage Borough. Hopper gave Bury the lead in the 26th minute, with Haber (54th min) and Tansey (56th min) turning the game around for Borough. Cullen made sure that the points were shared with an 85th minute strike. Stevenage Borough 5th, Bury 24th.

Walsall claimed a 2-1 win on the south coast against struggling big-spenders AFC Bournemouth at Dean Court. Butler gave the Saddlers the lead in the 41st minute, only to see Daniels level with 8 minutes to go. With the game seemingly heading for the Cherries 5th consecutive home draw, Bowerman popped up with an 90th minute winner to prompt shouts for the managers head. AFC Bournemouth 18th, Walsall 6th.

Crawley Town made the long trip to Carlisle United, bringing back all 3-points for their efforts. Byrne (64th min) and Adams (73rd min) made sure of the win with their strikes. Carlisle United 12th, Crawley Town 7th.

Preston North End were made to sweat for their win against Yeovil Town at Deepdale. Willians gave the Glovers the lead from the penalty spot in the 6th minute, only to see Monakana level in the 57th minute and Beardsley give PNE the lead in the 64th minute. Burn had the misfortune to put past his keeper in the 86th minute, but then put the ball in the right net a minute later! Preston North End 9th, Yeovil Town 13th.

Doncaster Rovers managed to get back to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Leyton Orient as Hume (12th min) and Cotterill (21st min) made side that the points were heading back to Yorkshire. Leyton Orient 14th, Doncaster Rovers 10th.

Portsmouth managed to give themselves a bit of breathing space at the wrong end of League One with a 2-1 win over Scunthorpe United at Fratton Park. Clarke gave Scunny the lead in the 6th minute, with Gyepes levelling 6 minutes later. On loan Thomas netted the winner with a minute left on the clock. Portsmouth 17th, Scunthorpe United 19th.

Managerless Colchester United managed to claim a win at home to equally struggling Hartlepool United at their Community Stadium despite falling behind to a 6th minute Lynch goal. Massey levelled in the 39th minute with a brace from Ibehre (43rd and 62nd mins) making sure that the points remained in Essex. Colchester United 20th, Hartlepool United 23rd.

Coventry City managed to chalk up their first win of the season with a single goal victory over Oldham Atheltic at Boundary Park. McDonald scored the only goal of the game in the 89th minute. Oldham Atheltic 21st, Coventry City 22nd.
