League One Review - March 19th
Here's our weekly round up of the action around Laegue One. Brighton & Hove Albion managed to edge past Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park as Barnes netted the only goal of the game to maintain teh Seagulls push for the Championship. Oldham Athletic 15th, Brighton & Hove Albion 1st. Huddersfield Town were thwarted at home as they were held to a 0-0 draw by lowly Swindon Town at the Galpharm Stadium. Huddersfield Town 2nd, Swindon Town 23rd. Peterborough United (3rd) play Franchise FC (6th) on Monday evening - a game that is being televised by Sky Sports. South Coast Club maintained their claim for a crack at automatic promotion with a 2-0 win over stuggling Sheffield Wednesday at St Mary's. Fonte (60th min) and Lambert (66th min) did enough to see the Saints through. South Coast Club 4th, Sheffield Wednesday 16th. AFC Bournemouth slipped to their 3rd successive defeat. Their latest reverse came at Brunton Park where Murphy scored the only goal of the game for Carlisle United in the 26th minute. Carlisle United 8th, AFC Bournemouth 5th. Leyton Orient's recent fine run came to an end at Griffin Park where Brentford notched up a 2-1 win over their London neighbours. bean (6th min) and Alexander (24th min) gave the Bees a 2-0 lead before McGleish netted a consolation in the 55th minute. Brentford 11th, Leyton Orient 7th. Rochdale headped a bit more on to troubled Plymouth Argyle at Home Park where the visitors edged it with a 1-0 win - their 6th on the road this season. Jones scored the only goal 4 minutes in to the 2nd half. Plymouth Argyle 24th, Rochdale 9th. Walsall boosted their chances of escaping the drop to League Two with a fine 5-2 win over Hartlepool United at Bescot, but not before a Larkin brace had given Pool a 2-goal lead with strikes in the 21st and 52nd minutes. The Saddlers hit back with goals from Grigg (59th min), Byfield (64th min), Gray (77th min), Smith (83rd min) and Ledesma (94th min) to leave them a point away from safety. Walsall 21st, Hartlepool United 10th. Yeovil Town also boosted their chances of beating the drop with a timely 3-2 on the road, theirs coming away at west country neighbours Exeter City. Cureton had given the Grecians the lead in the 25th minute at St James's Park, before Williams levelled for the Glovers in the 43rd minute, but there was still time for Cureton to restore the Devon sides lead on the stroke of half time. A Bowditch brace in the 58th and 64th minutes meant that the points were heading back to Somerset. Exeter City 12th, Yeovil Town 19th. Can it get any worse for Charlton Athletic at the moment? Their latest failure gave struggling Dagenham & Redbridge a huge boost in their quest for League One survival. Nurse and Green gave the Daggers a vital 2-goal lead with strikes in the 33rd and 55th minutes. Nouble could only respond for the Addicks in the 92nd minute. Dagenham & Redbridge 20th, Charlton Athletic 13th. Tranmere Rovers kept the drop zone at arms length with a 1-0 win over Colchester United at Prenton Park. Showumni scored the only goal of the game in the 53rd minute. Tranmere Rovers 18th, Colchester United 14th. On a good day for those battling against the drop, Bristol Rovers managed to win on the road against Notts County, who are in danger of being dragged in to a relegation dog fight. Hoskins scored the only goal for the Pirates in the 62nd minute. Notts County 17th, Bristol Rovers 22nd.
