League One Review - March 12th
Here's the weekly round up of the action around League One. Brighton & Hove Albion find themselves 8-points clear at the top of the table following a 2-0 win over Tranmere Rovers at Withdean. A Wood penalty in the 63rd minute and a Murray strike 8 minutes was enough to claim another 3-points as they head towards automatic promotion. Brighton & Hove Albion 1st, Tranmere Rovers 18th. Huddersfield Town find themselves in the automatic promotion places following a signle goal over Bristol Rovers at The Memorial Stadium. Rhodes scored the only goal of the game in the 5th minute allowing the Terriers to claim 2nd place. Bristol Rovers 23rd, Huddersfield Town 2nd. Peterborough United demolished Carlisle United at London Road as the home side ran off with a comprehansive 6-0 win. Rowe got the rout under way in the 2nd minute, with Mackail-Smith doubling the advantage 22 minutes later. Boyd netted a 3rd just before the break. Posh then had to be patient to score again, that after the Cumbrians had Cooper sent off in the 63rd minute. Bennett netted in the 77th minute, Boyd netted his second in the 83rd minute, leaving Ball to score in the 90th. Posh have now seen a remarkable 142 league goals this season! Peterborough United 3rd, Carlisle United 10th. The game of the day in League One came at Dean Court where AFC Bournemouth entertained near neighbours South Coast Club. Dalla Valle gave the Cherries the lead in the 5th minute, but that was about as good as it got in front of goal for the home side as Barnard levelled 6 minutes later, Hammond put the Saints ahead in the 71st minute, leaving Lambert to net with 2 minutes to go. AFC Bournemouth 5th, South Coast Club 4th. Franchise FC recorded their 7th away win of the season against Colchester United at their Community Stadium. Gillespie gave the Us the lead in the 29th minute, but a Baldock hat-trick in the 48th, 62nd and 86th minutes meant that the points were heading out of Essex. Colchester United 12th, Franchise FC 6th. Leyton Orient maintained their good run of league form with a 1-0 win over Oldham Athletic at Brisbane Road. M'Poku scored the only goal of the game in the 87th minute. Leyton Orient 7th, Oldham Athletic 13th. Hartlepool United added to the woes faced by Plymouth Argyle at The Victoria Ground. Sweeney (20th min) and Collins (64th min) meant that the Pilgrims had a long journey home back to Devon. Hartlepool United 8th, Plymouth Argyle 24th. Exeter City had a happier journey home following a 1-0 win over Rochdale at Spotland. Cureton scored the only goal of the game in the 30th minute to secure the win. Rochdale 15th, Exeter City 9th. Can it get any worse for Charlton Athletic at the moment? Brentford went to The Valley, and came away with a 1-0 win following an 89th minute goal from Legge. The win leaves The Addicks just above mid-table. Charlton Athletic 11th, Brentford 14th. Notts County eased their relagtion fears with a 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough. Gow scored the only goal, from the penalty spot in the 27th minute. Sheffield Wednesday 16th, Notts County 17th. Relegation haunted Yeovil Town and Walsall battled their way to a 1-1 draw at Huish. macken gave the Saddlers the lead in the 18th minute, only to see the Glovers level just before the break through Williams. Yeovil Town 19th, Walsall 21st. In another relegation battle, Swindon Town and Dagenham & Redbridge battled their way to a 1-1 draw at The County Ground. Grella gave the home side the lead in the 44th minute obly to see Nurse level 7 minutes before the end. Swindon Town 22nd, Dagenham & Redbridge 20th.
