League One Review - March 12

Here's our round up of the action around League One as the business end of the season draws that bit closer.

With the weather having an affected across the UK, there was an opportunity for some to apply some pressure at the top, which was duely done by Brentford who managed to come from behind to win against play-off rivals Swindon Town at Griffin Park. Ferry had given the Robins the lead in the 32nd minute, but two quick Bees goals from Saunders (72nd min pen) and Donaldson (76th min) took the sting out of the Wiltshire visitors who were sent packing back down the M4. Brentford 3rd, Swindon Town 4th.

Tranmere Rovers were undone by Walsall at Bescot, who themselves closed to within 4 points of a play-off place with a 2-0 win as a Grigg penalty (50th min) and a strike from Westcarr sealed the points. Walsall 8th, Tranmere Rovers 5th.

Yeovil Town were held by Crawley Town at Huish Park even though the home side took a 2-0 lead through Webster (5th min) and Madden (18th min). Their visitors responded with two in the second period through Walsh (46th min) and Sparrow (62nd min) to make sure that the points were shared. Yeovil Town 6th, Crawley Town 12th.

AFC Bournemouth managed to arrest their recent slide with a 1-0 win over Stevenage Borough at Broadhall Way as a Pitman penalty in the 38th minute sealed the all important 3-points for the Cherries. Stevenage Borough 16th, AFC Bournemouth 7th.

Coventry City had to come from behind to rescue a point against struggling Colchester United at The Ricoh Arena after the Essex side took a 2-goal cushion through Massey (39th min) and Smith (72nd min). The Sky Blues hit back through Wilson (77th min) and Baker (92nd min) to make sure that the points were shared. Coventry City 9th, Colchester United 19th.

Leyton Orient brought the mini-revival of Portsmouth to a halt with a 1-0 win at Brisbane Road as Batt scored the only goal of the game in the 57th minute. Leyton Orient 10th, Portsmouth 23rd.

Notts County came unstuck against Preston North End at Meadow Lane as a Hollis own goal sealed the win for PNE to give them a 10-point breathing space at the wrong end of the table. Notts County 11th, Preston North End 15th.

Franchise FC were undone at home against Shrewsbury Town at Stadium:Franchise as the Shrews ran out 3-2 winners. An Eaves brace in the 16th and 19th minutes was cancelled out by the thug Lowe's brace in the 27th and 47th minutes, with a Kay own goal sealing the win in the 69th minute. Franchise FC 13th, Shrewsbury Town 18th.

The games between Doncaster Rovers (1st) and Carlisle United (17th); Crewe Alexandra (14th) and Sheffield United (2nd); Bury (24th) and Scunthorpe United (20th) and Oldham Athletic (21st) and Hartlepool United (22nd) were all called off due to frozen conditions.
