League One Review - Jan 26th

Sides in League One were split between League and FA Cup action.

With the match Tranmere Rovers (1st) and Swindon Town (4th) being called off, it gave an opportunity for those involved in league action to catch up.

AFC Bournemouth took full advantage of others having the weekend off from league action as they managed to see Crewe Alexandra off with a 3-1 win at Dean Court. Pitman netted a hat-trick with two of those coming from the penalty spot. Goals in the 8th min (pen), 67th min and 82nd min (pen) sealed the hat trick. Colclough netted what proved to be a consolation for the Alex in the 76th minute. AFC Bournemouth 5th, Crewe Alexandra 13th.

Coventry City couldn't take full advantage as they were held to a draw by Preston North End at Deepdale. Cummins gave PNE the lead in the 30th minute, but the game was turned in the Sky Blues' favour as Clarke (38th min and a 53rd min own goal from Robertson put the visitors ahead. Wroe bagged a consolation on the hour mark. Preston North End 16th, Coventry City 7th.

Walsall failed to close in on the play-off places, by slipping up at struggling Colchester United at their Community Stadium. Goals from Ibehre (79th min) and Sears (89th min) lifted Col U out of the drop zone. Colchester United 20th, Walsall 11th.

Notts County seem to be peddling backwards at the moment, as they loose ground on the play-off places they occupied a few months ago. Leyton Orient hoisted themselves in to mid table with a 2-1 win over County as Mooney (65th min) and Baudry (68th min) gave the O's a 2-goal lead. Hughes netted a consolation in the 78th minute. Leyton Orient 15th, Notts County 12th.

Carlisle United and Scunthorpe United played out a 1-1 draw at Brunton Park. Hawley put Scunny in to the lead in the 52nd minute, with Symington levelling in the 76th minute. Carlisle United 17th, Scunthorpe United 21st.

Was this a relegation 6-pointer or are Portsmouth and Hartlepool United looking at League Two already? The two met at Fratton Park, with the visitors securing just their third win of the season! Goals from Baldwin (18th min) and Poole (52nd min) gave United something to smile about. Wallace pulled one back in the 67th minute only to see Rutherford grab a 94th minute strike to seal the win. Portsmouth 23rd, Hartlepool United 24th.

The only other game played out in League One saw Shrewsbury Town (18th) and Bury (22nd) play out a 0-0 draw at the New Meadow.

Just two League One sides involved in Saturday's FA Cup action. Franchise FC managed to cause a shock with a remarkable 4-2 win over Premiership Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road. Goals from Traore (4th min own goal), Lowe (40th min), Harley (50th min) and Potter (56th min) put the third tier side 4-up before Bothroyd (83rd min) and Da Silva (92nd min) netted consolations!

Reading made light work of Sheffield United at the Madj Stad with a comfortable 4-0 win. Goals from Hunt (6th & 50th mins), Leigertwood (40th min), and McCleary (54th min) sealed a place in the 5th round.

Playing on Sunday are Brentford at home to Chelsea, and Oldham Athletic as they face Liverpool.
