League One Review - Feb 14th

Here's our round up of the midweek action around League One.

Charlton Athletic managed to hold on against Franchise FC at The Valley as the Addicks managed to win 2-1. A quick Jackson brace of penalties before half time (44th and 45th mins) gave the home side a 2-goal lead at the break. Bowditch set up an interesting finish with 3 minutes left on the clock, but it wasn't enough. Charlton Athletic 1st, Franchise FC 5th.

In the big Yorkshire derby, Sheffield United edged Huddersfield Town at the Galpharm by a single goal as Collins scored the only goal of the game in the 5th minute. Huddersfield Town 4th, Sheffield United 2nd.

Sheffield Wednesday, on the other hand were edged themselves as Stevenage Borough completed a double over their more illustrious opponents as Laird scored the only goal of the game on the stroke of half time. Sheffield Wednesday 3rd, Stevenage Borough 6th.

Following their first win at Brisbane Road in living memory earlier in the season, Leyton Orient gained revenege for that defeat with their first win at Dean Court against AFC Bournemouth for 20 years. Lisbie got the ball rolling with the opening goal in the 17th minute. Pugh levelled in the 34th minute, only to see Smith score the winner in the 75th minute. AFC Bournemouth 8th, Leyton Orient 15th.

Bouyed by their win at the weekend, Exeter City couldn't continue as they left off, going down 2-1 against Notts County at Meadow Lane. Messers Hughes and Hughes (Lee then Jeff) scored either side (8th and 82th mins) of a Bennett goal for the Grecians (14th min). Notts County 9th, Exeter City 19th.

Colchester United managed to edge Brentford to claim a win at their Community Stadium despite seeing McGinn putting the Bees ahead in the 57th minute. A Gillespie brace in the 83rd and 85th minutes managed to turn the game around for the Essex side. Colchester United 11th, Brentford 10th.

Preston North End managed to record victory over Hartlepool United at Deepdale with Mayor scoring the only goal of the game in the 76th minute. Preston North End 12th, Hartlepool United 14th.

Bury managed to salvage a point at home against Chesterfield following an Ajose opener in the 41st minute. Just when it seemed that the Spirites were looking for the final whistle, Schumacher popped up with a leveller in the 88th minute. Bury 13th, Chesterfield 23rd.

Walsall still find themselves deep in trouble at the wrong end of the table, going down to a 2-1 defeat against Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park. Morais (2nd min) and Simpson (31st min) gave the Latics a 2-goal lead at the break. Cuvelier pulled one back for the Saddlers in the 74th minute, but it wasn't enough as the gap to safety widened. Oldham Athletic 16th, Walsall 22nd.

Yeovil Town took a massive step towards safety with a win over fellow strugglers Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park, that despite going behind to a Beavon goal in the 15th minute. The Glovers hit back through A Williams (59th & 67th minutes) and Agard (73rd minute). An interesting finish was on the cards when Grant reduced the arrears for the Chairboys just 6 minutes later, but it wasn't enough to salavage a point. The yellow card count finished 4-4. Wycombe Wanderers 21st, Yeovil Town 18th.

Scunthorpe United managed to edge Rochdale out at Glanford Park as the Iron managed to sneak a 1-0 win ...... Thompson scored the only goal of the game in the 64th minute. Scunthorpe United 20th, Rochdale 24th.

Carlisle United (7th) and Tranmere Rovers (17th) played out a 0-0 draw at Brunton Park.
