Sheffield United managed to hold out for a 2-1 over midtable AFC Bournemouth at Bramhall Lane. Goals from Evans (34th min) and Cresswell (50th min) drew a response from Hines (67th min), which set up a jittery last 20 minutes for the home side. Sheffield United 2nd, AFC Bournemouth 13th.
Sheffield Wednesday kept up the pressure on the leading pair with a 2-0 win over near neighbours Huddersfield Town at the Galpharm. Notts County kept up the pressure on those in the play-off places with a fine 3-0 win over Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road - a result leaving the east London side looking over their shoulders. Brentford kept their hopes of a play-off place alive with a fine 3-0 win over Bury at Griffin Park. A brace fron Saunders (44th & 63rd mins) and a contribution from Logan (68th min) sealed the win for the Bees. Brentford 8th, Bury 19th.
Stevenage Borough look as if they are pedalling backwards at the moment, their cause not helped with a 3-0 defeat at Prenton Park against Tranmere Rovers. A brace from Cassidy (2nd and 11th mins) and one from Akins sealed the win to put a nail in the play-off coffin for Borough. Tranmere Rovers 11th, Stevenage Borough 9th.
Colchester United look safe in League One for another season as they had to be content with a 1-1 draw against Hartlepool United at their Community Stadium. Sweeney gave Pool the lead in the 17th minute, with a Sears penalty salvaging a point in the 81st minute. Colchester United 10th, Hartlepool United 12th.
Yeovil Town have made themselves pretty much safe for another season in the third tier with a 3-1 win over Rochdale at Huish Park. Franks (7th min), Hinds (29th min) and Woods (75th min) put the result beyond doubt, but there was still time for a grounds own goal (80th min) to give Dale a consolation. Scunthorpe United are just about home and dry for this season, but just edged Exeter City out at Glanford Park with a 1-0 win - Parkin scoring the only goal in the 76th minute. The result leaves Exeter City looking at relegation to League Two on Easter Monday. Scunthorpe United 15th, Exeter City 23rd.
Walsall gave themselves some much needed breathing space between themselves and the drop zone with a narrow 3-2 win over Chesterfield at Bescot. Moussa gave the Spirites the lead in the 20th minute, which prompted Ledesma to hit back with 2 quick strikes in the 27th and 33rd minutes. The Spirites levelled in the 54th minute through Randall, leaving Mantom to claim what proved to be the winner just 4 minutes later. The result leaves Chesterfield effectively 14 points short of safety with 5 matches left, with a home match on Easter Monday against Wycombe Wanderers next for them. Walsall 18th, Chesterfield 24th.
