League One Review - April 16th
Here's our round up of the weekend action around League One. Having clinched promotion on Tuesday evening, Brighton & Hove Albion clinched the League One title with a 3-1 away win against Walsall at Bescot. Calderon gave the Seagulls the lead in the 6th minute, with Butler levelling for the Saddlers 5 minutes later. Murray restored the advantage 2 minutes after the re start, leaving Bennett to confirm what the title with a 90th minute strike. Walsall 20th, Brighton & Hove Albion 1st. South Coast Club maintained their push for automatic promotion with a 1-0 win over struggling Bristol Rovers at St Mary's. Guly scored the only goal of the game in the 82nd minute. South Coast Club 2nd, Bristol Rovers 21st. Huddersfield Town are only outside the top-2 on goal difference following a single goal win over Charlton Athletic at The Valley. Gudjonsson scored the only goal of the game in the 83rd minute. Charlton Athletic 13th, Huddersfield Town 3rd. Peterborough United had to come from behind to claim 3 vital points against Plymouth Argyle at London Road. Fletcher gave Argyle the lead in the 38th minute, only to see Posh hit back through bennett (55th min) and Mackail-Smith (70th min). The win leaves Posh 3 points off an automatic promotion place. Peterborough United 4th, Plymouth Argyle 24th. Franchise FC componded the relegation woes of Swindon Town at The County Ground as O'Hanlon scored the only goal of the game in the 17th minute. The result leaves Town 5-points adrift of safety with 4 matches left. Swindon Town 23rd, Franchise FC 5th. AFC Bournemouth ended a recent barron run of results with a 2-0 win over Notts County at Meadow Lane, which saw County notch up an unwanted club record of 9 straight defeats. Robsinon gave the Cherries the lead in the 67th minute, with Ings sealing the win 10 minutes later. Notts County 22nd, AFC Bournemouth 6th. Rochdale slipped up to a late Brentford goal at Spotland as Simpson scoring the only goal of the game in the 79th minute. Rochdale 7th, Brentford 10th. Exeter City maintained their faint push for a play-off place at the expense of fellow play-off chasing Leyton Orient at St James's Park. Cureton gave the Grecians the lead in the 4th minute, with Cox levelling 8 minutes later. The winner came with 11 minutes to go as Cureton netted to secure the win. Exeter City 9th, Leyton Orient 8th. Carlisle United had a field day against Colchester United at Brunton Park with a 4-1 win over the Essex side. The Cumbrians were 3-up in the first 30 minutes or so as Berrett (9th min), Curran (26th min) and Noble (31st min) sealed the win before half time. Curran netted his second in the 61st minute, leaving Gillespie to score a consolation 10 minutes later. Carlisle United 12th, Colchester United 11th. Sheffield Wednesday should now be safe in League One for anther season, as are Hartlepool United, who were defeated 2-0 at Hillsborough. A Miller penalty on the stroke of half time, and a 65th minute strike from Madine proved enough to seal the win. Sheffield Wednesday 15th, Hartlepool United 14th. Yeovil Town and Oldham Athletic should also be safe for another year in the 3rd tier following a 1-1 draw at Huish Park. Taylor gave the Latics the lead in the 17th minute, with Welsh levelling in the 85th minute. Yeovil Town 17th, Oldham Athletic 16th. Tranmere Rovers took a big stride to securing their League One status with a 2-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge at Prenton Park. Showumni (12th min) and Goodison (34th min) scored the goals to secure the win, leaving the Daggers with some work to do above the drop-zone. Tranmere Rovers 18th, Dagenham & Redbridge 19th.
