14 April 2013 18:44
Here's our round up of the weekend action around League One as the seasons issues starting coming to the boil.

Doncaster Rovers had to come from behind to maintain their place on top of the pile against Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road after Clayton gave the Alex a 54th minute lead. A brace from Paynter in the 66th and 70th minutes sealed the win for Donny. Crewe Alexandra 13th, Doncaster Rovers 1st.

AFC Bournemouth are in hot pursuit of top spot following an emphatic 3-0 win over Shrewsbury Town at the New Meadow after Town failed, again, to keep a clean sheet in the opening few minutes. Pitman netted a fine brace in the 5th and 53rd minutes, which was added to when Grandison put past his own keeper in the 62nd minute. The result leaves the Shrews with work to do to avoid the drop, while the Cherries are still looking at results elsewhere. Shrewsbury 18th, AFC Bournemouth 2nd.

Brentford had to come from behind against a spirited Portsmouth side to maintain their push at the top. Wright-Phillips netted for the Bees in the 21st minute, which prompted Connolly to level 5 minutes later. Cooper gave Pompey the lead in the 58th minute, only to see Wright-Phillips level in the 85th minute and Donaldson score the winner a minute later! Brentford have a massive trip to Bramhall Lane on Tuesday. Brentford 3rd, Portsmouth 22nd.

Yeovil Town guaranteed at least a play-off place with a 2-0 win over Stevenage Borough at Broadhall Way as Foley (53rd min) and Hayter (81st min) scored the all important goals. Stevenage Borough 17th, Yeovil Town 4th.

In the latest play-off 6-pointer, saw Sheffield United victorious against Swindon Town at Bramhall Lane. Goals from Porter (34th min) and Kitson (82nd min) sealed victory. The Robins did wil the yellow card count 7-1! Sheffield United 5th, Swindon Town 6th.

For a 34 minute spell in the second half, Walsall were in the play-off places after Grigg gave the Saddlers the lead in the 54th minute. A place in the top-6 was denied when Canavan popped up in the 88th minute to rescue a point for Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park. Scunthorpe United 21st, Walsall 7th.

Leyton Orient are well and truely in there for a top-6 finish as they managed to secure a 2-0 win over Franchise FC, which placed a massive dent in the Franchise holders hopes of a play-off place. Goals from Sawyer (81st min) and Lisbie (90th min) secured 3-vital points. Leyton Orient 8th, Franchise FC 10th.

Having led League One for most the season, Tranmere Rovers are now looking as if they are going to miss out on a play-off place. Their cause wasn't helped as Hartlepool United managed to grab a slender lifeline to their League One status as Austin scored the winner in the 10th minute, which was a re-bounded penalty miss. Tranmere Rovers 9th, Hartlepool United 23rd.

Can Crawley Town still make the play-offs? The Sussex side managed to bag a 2-0 win over Coventry City at The Broadfield Stadium as Clarke (15th min) and Essam (60th min) bagged the win. Crawley are 4 points and 5 places short of 6th. Crawley Town 11th, Coventry City 16th.

Notts County are blissfully secure in their League One status, but posted a sounding note for next season with a 3-1 win over Colchester United at Meadow Lane. Hughes gave County the lead in the 18th minute, with Ibehre levelling in the 37th minute. Arquin and Nangel netted in the 77th and 91st minutes to seal victory. Notts County 12th, Colchester United 19th.

Carlisle United and Preston North End played out a mid-table 1-1 draw at Brunton Park as Miller (38th min) cancelled out Monakana's 12th minute strike. Carlisle United 15th, Preston North End 14th.

The first issue in League One was decided at Gigg Lane where Bury were relegated by near neighbours Oldham Athletic. Smith scored the all important goal in the 79th minute to lift the Latics out of the drop zone while condemning cash-strapped Bury to the drop. Bury 24th, Oldham Athletic 20th.
