Howe said: "There is no blame at all attached to Alan. He made a difference when he came on, we looked a different side and it was a good save.
"What a difference a week makes. Last week we were fortunate enough when the opposition missed a penalty and we went on to win the game but this time the roles were reversed.
"We threw everything at them and I thought we deserved at least a point but there's still 15 games to go and the important thing is that we don't let our heads drop after one defeat."
