Future Role For Big Fletch

The option is on the table for the Club to employ Steve Fletcher as an ambassador for the Cherries.

Steve Fletcher has been an integral part of the Club since he arrived as a fresh faced youngster from Hartlepool United some 20-years ago. It will come as no surprise that there's a possibility of a future role for the Cherries record appearance maker, with Eddie Howe being quoted in the Bournemouth Evening Echo as saying: "We haven’t sat down and discussed the role yet. But when someone has the love and passion for the club, and the football career and football understanding, that Fletch has, I think he would be a real asset to us".

Fletch's own thoughts are: "I don’t want to just be a figure on the training pitch and not close to team selection. That is the last thing I would have wanted to end my career doing as I have always been a player and a big part of the team. And after discussions with the gaffer, we have come to the agreement for me to go into something else at the club and, hopefully, start a new chapter in my career with AFC Bournemouth. While my playing career at Bournemouth is ending, I want to be involved, in some department, with the success going forward with the manager and Jason. Hopefully in the forthcoming weeks, I can sit down with the gaffer and Eddie Mitchell and discuss what is going to be the best direction for me to take and what suits not only the manager and chairman, but also myself".
