FA Cup Reaction - Cherries III

Here's more post match reaction to the FA Cup win over Tranmere Rovers. Much has been said about the new ball being used in this years FA Cup, which contributed to the goal keepers being made to look a bit 'silly' at times. Goal keeping coach, Neil Moss, was quoted in the Bournemouth Evening Echo as saying: "They need to draw a line and say enough is enough. The balls we are using in league games are lighter than last season but aren’t too bad. With the correct technique, they are saveable. But it’s hard to keep these FA Cup balls straight. I was trying my best in the warm-up so Jal could catch a few but they were moving around so much. With the way things are going, I fear for the art of goalkeeping and strikers don’t want them either. They don’t want all and sundry being able to score from 25 yards. They want scoring a goal to remain a skill. I’m not going to make excuses for Jal. But if you look at their first goal, all the guy did was hit the ball as hard as he possibly could. The swerve and movement makes it terribly hard to save the ball, let alone hold on to it. As a coach, we’re having to teach young keepers not to catch the ball. We have to teach them how to parry it or cushion it on to the ground and get the second ball. I used to pride myself on catching the ball as much as I could and it is sad the way it is going".
