Cherries pick off Rovers

A first-half goal from midfield ace Harry Arter gave Bournemouth a deserved 1-0 win at Doncaster and continued their climb up the npower League One table under Eddie Howe.

It was a sixth win in seven games since Howe returned as manager a month ago.

Bournemouth were the better side in the first half and Lewis Grabban had an early effort saved before Charlie Daniels fired inches wide.

Injury-hit Doncaster rarely tested former England goalkeeper David James and the Cherries snatched the lead in the 38th minute when Arter shook off his marker to fire a low shot in off the post from the edge of the box.

Rovers looked lethargic in the first half but came out after the break with a sense of purpose and more urgency. However, Iain Hume was out of luck when he headed over the crossbar in the 54th minute.

Bournemouth weathered the pressure, although the visitors seemed fortunate not to concede a penalty in the 78th minute when substitute David Syers was sent tumbling in the box by Daniels.

Doncaster's attempts to hit back were unconvincing and the Cherries held on to gain a deserved victory.
