Cherries: Wiggins insists step up is possible
Cherries star Rhoys Wiggins believes Eddie Howe's surprise packages can continue to prove wrong their doubters by sustaining their unexpected promotion push.[LNB] Wiggins has been instrumental in Cherries' revival under Howe, both during two fruitful loan spells and since he made permanent his move to Dean Court in the summer.[LNB] The marauding left-back is tomorrow due to make his 50th league start for Cherries and will be hoping to extend an impressive record of 26 wins and 12 draws from his first 49 appearances.[LNB] His exploits, against a backdrop of continuing financial uncertainty, have helped Cherries climb from the depths of League Two to the upper reaches of League One.[LNB] And the Londoner is convinced Howe's charges can this season write the next chapter to the success story by realising their dream of promotion to the Championship.[LNB] We've kept proving people wrong and there is no reason why we can't do it again, said the 23-year-old. We've taken the step up in our stride and have exceeded the expectations of most people.[LNB] Apart from the first half against Charlton and a couple of occasions towards the end of games, our performances have been top drawer.[LNB] I believe we can maintain this form and so do the other players. We've played all the top teams in the division and have held our own against most of them and outplayed some.[LNB] Our home form has been excellent and most of the top teams have got to come to Dean Court in the second half of the season. I'm sure we can keep up the momentum.[LNB] Howe ended a lengthy pursuit when he persuaded Wiggins to join Cherries from Championship-bound Norwich, the defender restricted to just three cup appearances for the Canaries.[LNB] Since signing during pre-season, Wiggins, who also featured only once for his first club Crystal Palace, has seen leading marksmen Brett Pitman and Josh McQuoid both sold.[LNB] Wiggins said: I knew Bournemouth was a selling club when I came here. Everybody has been as good as gold with me and I am grateful the club gave me my chance. I've stabilised my career and have found my feet.[LNB] Even though we have lost players, we've got more than enough to keep it going. We've got people who can step in and, hopefully, produce the same level as Brett and Josh.[LNB] As a group, I've never been in such a good changing room. Everyone is together and I think that shows on the pitch. We've carried on the momentum from when Eddie took over.[LNB] I don't see why we couldn't step up to the plate if we were to move on again. Eddie would look to bring in a couple more players and I'm sure we could hold our own. We've made a good start and now we need to keep going.[LNB]
