Cherries: Stockley lets Mourinho have it

HE'S only 16 and, on Tuesday, he received his GSCE results, but nobody keeps Jayden Stockley waiting not even the Special One.[LNB] What has been a whirlwind 12 months for the former Lytchett Minster schoolboy culminated in successful A-C passes in 10 subjects, including top grades in English Literature and Language, when he opened his results live on TV.[LNB] But following Cherries reserves' defeat at Wycombe Wanderers, Stockley was less than impressed after the camera crew from Sky Sports delayed his moment of truth while colleagues in London broadcast an interview with Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho.[LNB] Cheeky Stockley was even heard to say stop hogging the microphone by chuckling producers at Sky HQ in Isleworth, as Mourinho waxed lyrical about Real's Champions League aspirations.[LNB] Sky Sports called me on the way to the game and then made me wait for Jose Mourinho to finish so I could get on, said Stockley.[LNB] I just said Stop hogging Jose, it's my turn now'![LNB] It was so nerve-racking opening the envelope on TV, but exciting as well knowing the nation was going to find out my results at the same time as me.[LNB] I thought I could have done better with the grades, but missing a bit of school last year didn't help. So, overall, I was pleased.[LNB] Poole-born Stockley, who turns 17 next month, was thrust into the limelight when named on the bench for Cherries' League Two clash against Burton Albion last September.[LNB] The teenager then made his first-team bow three weeks later as Eddie Howe's men slumped to a 2-1 Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat at Northampton Town.[LNB] Mock exams followed, before Stockley sat down for his GSCEs while Howe's men masterminded an epic promotion to League One.[LNB] In between all that, Stockley penned a five-year deal with the Dean Court outfit, after the striker's rapid rise to prominence was believed to have alerted scouts from Birmingham, Wolves and Burnley.[LNB] Needless to say, concentrating on passing exams was not easy.[LNB] I found myself day dreaming in class of games at the weekend, recalled the teenager, and if I had trained on a Thursday, my mindset on a Friday was football rather than school.[LNB] It was hard to balance the two but I think I did a pretty good job of it.[LNB] Now the school work is over, however, Stockley has been training with Howe's first-team full-time, as well as travelling to the Valley for the season curtain-raiser against Charlton on August 7 and the Carling Cup clash at Southampton's St Mary's Stadium three days later.[LNB] He is set to embark on his two-year scholarship at Brockenhurst College next month, before the three-year professional period of his contract begins in 2012.[LNB] He added: I've progressed as a player through training more regularly, although I'm frustrated that I haven't scored for the first team yet in a competitive match. But it's been an honour to train with the lads each day and the manager has definitely allowed me to progress.[LNB] It's a privilege to train with such great players.[LNB] I've been involved in every squad so far this season and it's been a great experience. I haven't played, but it's been great to be there supporting the lads, who have done such a great job so far.[LNB] The atmosphere at Southampton was amazing and it was great seeing all the fans there. It just made me desperate to start a game like that and gave me a vision for the future.[LNB] I can't wait for the professional deal to start. Hopefully, the next two years will fly by so I can get started and make a name for myself.[LNB]
