Cherries: Smith looking forward after St Mary's setback

Cherries loan star Adam Smith is vowing to put behind him his St Mary's setback even though it will cost him his debut on the small screen.[LNB] Smith will be forced to sit out Saturday's Sky-televised clash with Brighton after collecting the first sending off of his career during Cherries' 2-0 defeat at Southampton.[LNB] The teenage defender, three games into a month's loan from Spurs, picked up two yellow cards in the space of 19 second-half minutes for fouls on Dan Harding and Jason Puncheon.[LNB] Smith, who will serve an automatic one-match ban, told the Daily Echo: I could accept the first one but I hardly touched him for the second. It may have looked like a foul but there was nothing in it and I didn't think the referee needed to give me a second yellow.[LNB] It was disappointing, especially so late in the game and when we were already 2-0 down, and now I will miss the Brighton game.[LNB] With it being the international break, it would have been a good game to be involved in but I can't do anything about it so will have to learn from it and look forward to the next game, if I get picked.[LNB] Smith starred in his first two appearances for Cherries back-to-back home wins over Carlisle and Exeter and hinted he would be open to extending his stay, which expires following the visit of MK Dons a week on Saturday.[LNB] If both parties are keen then I would like to stay, said Smith. It will be up to the manager here and my manager at Spurs.[LNB] I really enjoyed the two home games and felt I did quite well, as did the team. Six points was an excellent return but you want to win every game which is why Southampton was disappointing.[LNB] Smith will continue to train with Eddie Howe's squad until the expiry of his first month before his situation is reviewed following the MK Dons encounter.[LNB] Howe told the Daily Echo: Adam has shown a great attitude to his work and has done really well in the games. He was a real attacking force for us in the two home games and I've been pleased with him.[LNB] Smith's absence at Withdean will force Howe into at least one change as third-placed Cherries go head to head with the League One leaders.[LNB] Howe said: We've got a few options. It will depend on who's fit and who we think would be best suited to the game.[LNB] Stephen Purches was back training on Monday for the first time in a long time so it was good to see him back.[LNB] Whether or not he will be fit enough to start is another matter. Like with anybody else, you don't want to throw anybody in until you know they are fit enough to play.[LNB] Howe reported a couple of niggles but nothing serious from the Saints game, while Harry Arter was expected to resume light training this week following hernia surgery. Jayden Stockley (hamstring) also returned to training yesterday.[LNB]
