SUPER-fit Sammy Igoe has set his sights on joining the 40-club with Charlton boss Phil Parkinson tipping him to go the distance.[LNB] Parkinson predicted Igoe could keep playing into his 40s after he had impressed during the Addicks pre-season clash at Dean Court six days ago.[LNB] And as Igoe prepares to embark on his 16th season as a pro, the midfielder who turns 34 next month is determined to prove there is still plenty left in the tank.[LNB] He told the Daily Echo: Id like to think I could keep playing into my 40s, I know some players do.[LNB] Weve got a lot of young players in our side and Im as fit as any of them. As long as I dont have any serious injuries, theres no reason why I couldnt carry on for a few more years.[LNB] As you get older, you have to be more conscious about your lifestyle. Ive always been naturally fit and I never put on any weight so Im lucky in that sense.[LNB] Ill be the first to admit that when I was younger, I would go out in midweek and have a drink. I probably have a drink once every two months now. It takes you longer to recover and I definitely look after myself more now.[LNB] Igoe, one of Cherries most consistent performers during pre-season, also paid tribute to conditioning coach Jon Dalzell who has been working with Eddie Howes squad during their warm-up campaign.[LNB] Hes done a fantastic job, said Igoe. Id never worked with him before but I know people at Portsmouth who have and hes come in and really looked after the lads.[LNB] I dont want to jinx myself. I normally get a little niggle during pre-season but think its been down to Jon that I havent.[LNB] Igoe will be hoping to take his impressive pre-season form into the new campaign and is in line to start when Cherries open their League Two programme at Bury tomorrow.[LNB] He added: We proved last season that we could compete with the best in this division.[LNB] This season, youve got to feel we can be there or thereabouts. We dont want to create any pressure by saying were going to do this or that but were quietly confident.[LNB] Personally, Im hoping to stay injury free and play as many games as I possibly can.[LNB]
