Cherries: Roach tells youngsters to take their chance

Cherries boss Joe Roach will urge his young guns to seize the moment when they bid to pull off an FA Youth Cup giant-killing against Bolton Wanderers.[LNB] Roach's underdogs will be hoping to showcase their talents against Premier Academy League opposition when they face the Trotters tonight (7pm).[LNB] Cherries set up a trip to the Reebok after seeing off Bristol Rovers and AFC Wimbledon and will be looking to book a place in the fourth round for the first time since 1997.[LNB] Roach told the Daily Echo: We have watched a number of DVDs and Bolton are a strong side. We will pay heed to them in terms of what they might do but we've got to prepare to dictate as much as we can.[LNB] We've tried to play up everything in terms of what we can do and how we can do it. Bolton are a Premier League side and will be playing on their own patch. It's their first game in the competition so they will probably be worried about us more than we are worried about them.[LNB] Being away from home takes a bit of weight off our shoulders and the pressure will be on Bolton.[LNB] This is the biggest game our lads will have encountered to date. Their attitude in the past month has been exemplary. They have remained focused and there is a steely determination about the squad, although nobody is getting blasé.[LNB] We have prepared them as well as we can. We've gained a bit of knowledge about certain areas we can affect and now it's about trying to do the best we can on the day. They have come into football to prepare themselves for this type of game and have worked hard to earn this experience.[LNB] Roach has taken his full squad to the north west, which includes 11 second years, seven first years and schoolboy Jayden Stockley.[LNB] Cherries have injured doubts surrounding Dan Thomas (back) and Tom Strong (calf), while Tim Stephenson has only just returned following a long layoff.[LNB] Cherries boss Eddie Howe, who represented the club in the FA Youth Cup in the mid-1990s, told the Daily Echo: The boys have done fantastically well to reach this stage.[LNB] We watched the first two rounds and they performed very well at Bristol Rovers and got a good result at Wimbledon where perhaps the performance wasn't quite as good.[LNB] It will be a great experience for them to go to Bolton and the FA Youth Cup is always a special competition. Hopefully, they can put on a good show and you never know what might happen.[LNB] They've got absolutely nothing to lose and that's how they have got to approach it. It's a one-off game and they need to soak in the atmosphere. As long as they enjoy it and do themselves justice to a man, it will have been a worthwhile experience.[LNB]
