Cherries: Purches gets a chance on the left

EXPERIENCED utility man Stephen Purches has been handed the opportunity to stake a claim for a Cherries defensive berth.[LNB] Purches has been limited to just six starts since rejoining Cherries in the summer.[LNB] But he will line up at left-back for the club's reserves against Swindon this afternoon (2pm) as boss Lee Bradbury assesses his injury-hit options ahead of Saturday's League One trip to Carlisle.[LNB] First choice Rhoys Wiggins limped off in the early stages of the derby defeat against Southampton and was yesterday set to have his gluteal injury checked out.[LNB] Bradbury confirmed Wiggins's replacement, club captain Warren Cummings, was also a doubt after damaging ankle ligaments.[LNB] That means Purches, who has played at left-back during his career, could step in for his first league start since August 28.[LNB] Bradbury said: Steve is very capable of playing in most positions across the back and in holding midfield.[LNB] Purchey is a great pro. He can play all over the place and it is nice to be able to bring in someone who has played that many games at this level. You know you can rely on them.[LNB] Fellow senior players Mark Molesley and Steve Lovell will also face Swindon's reserves in the totesport.com Combination clash.[LNB]
