Cherries: Pugh keen for boss Eddie to stay
LANCASTRIAN Marc Pugh is desperate for Eddie Howe to stay at Dean Court after the Cherries boss became favourite to take charge at the winger's boyhood club Burnley.[LNB] Cherries chief Howe was yesterday backed in to odds-on frontrunner to succeed Brian Laws.[LNB] Pugh began his career as a trainee at Turf Moor before being released by Steve Cotterill.[LNB] The Cherries star remains a Clarets fan but is hoping Burnley do not prise Howe from Dorset.[LNB] Pugh told the Echo: If a bigger club comes along, it's going to be tough to turn down.[LNB] But he has done that in the past because he loves AFC Bournemouth.[LNB] I'd love Burnley to gain promotion to the Premier League but we'd love Eddie to stay because he's done such a fantastic job.[LNB] The fans think the world of him, along with the players. He's helped me as a player.[LNB] Pugh added: He's always going to be linked to bigger and better clubs because he's a young and enthusiastic manager.[LNB] I think he's going to go a long way in the game and I believe he will manage in the Premier League one day. It's just when he feels the time is right.[LNB] Howe, regarded as one of the country's brightest young managers, was also recently linked with the top job at Sheffield United, while he previously declined approaches from Peterborough and Southampton.[LNB] He took Cherries training yesterday and said of the speculation: I take it with a pinch of salt until told differently.[LNB] Cherries chairman Eddie Mitchell last night confirmed he had not received an approach for Howe.[LNB]
