Cherries Need To Get Ugly

Eunan O'Kane calls for the Cherries to get 'uglier' in how they play to compete in the Championship.

With the Cherries now without a win in 5, midfielder Eunan O'Kane has called on his colleague to improve on the uglier side of their game rather than get bullied by more experienced sides in the Championship.

Speaking in the Bournemouth Evening Echo, O'Kane is quoted as saying: "It has been different to what I expected. Sometimes teams drag you into the way they want to play and that is part of the learning curve for me individually and for the team as a group. Burnley are up at the top and flying but our match there was a bit of a fight and there was no real football played. We want to try and play football the right way but you can’t really say much against their style of play because it has been successful for them. It just shows that you have to deal with both sides of things. If you go to these places and get outhustled, teams look at that and think they can run right over you. At this level you have to learn very quickly or you end up on a run like we’re on at the minute. When you go to tough places and get yourselves in front there is a call to be a little more direct. You have to manage games to an extent but, in a way, we have to be a footballing side because we don’t have a big target man. There are times where you have to go longer and I think that is something we recognise we need to get better at as a group, showing better quality when we’re trying to relieve that pressure without just hitting long raking clearances".
