Cherries: Moles admits defeat in battle over injury

GUTTED Mark Molesley's season is in tatters after the Cherries star admitted his desperate attempts to avoid an operation had ended in failure.[LNB] The former non-league player is set to go under the knife in Southampton tomorrow in a bid to repair a stress fracture in his left foot.[LNB] Midfielder Molesley has tried everything possible to save his season, having donned an air-cast boot before pushing on with a rehabilitation programme during the past few weeks, despite doctors offering to operate almost a month ago.[LNB] But after exhausting all the other available options, Molesley received the news he had feared when he visited a specialist in London on Monday.[LNB] The original operation he was due to have would have ruled him out for the season, but Molesley is hoping tomorrow's procedure could give him a slim chance of featuring again this term.[LNB] However, the 28-year-old admits that is unlikely and his continued absence will come as a big blow to Cherries.[LNB] Now I'm going to have this operation there is an outside chance they might be able to do not such a big procedure, so there is still a little bit of hope, the crowd favourite told the Echo.[LNB] There is a little glimmer of hope but it's not great. That's why I haven't had it already. I could've had it straight away but have tried every way to avoid it, but I've got to bite the bullet now.[LNB] I tried the boot, crutches, and this and that, but I've run out of options so I'm going to have to have the operation.[LNB] This is my lowest point in football because it has followed my biggest high.[LNB] We stayed up last season and now we're sitting at the top of the league after a good start. I'm going from the best football has ever been for me and now it's not there and there's nothing I can do about it.[LNB] Scans on the likeable Londoner's injury in late December revealed there had been no improvement with the injury, but after putting off the operation in a bid to save his season, Molesley has had to eventually concede defeat, albeit reluctantly.[LNB] He added: I decided not to have that operation straight away because I wanted to get other opinions on it.[LNB] I've got those opinions now. It was a bit later because of Christmas and the weather because one (specialist) was in Southampton and one in London, so it was quite hard getting to see those people.[LNB] I've seen both now and I'm sorting out what's the best route forward because nothing has changed, it hasn't healed itself and I need an operation.[LNB]
