Cherries: Mitchell's fears over management duo
CHERRIES chairman Eddie Mitchell admits the club could lose emerging management duo Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall should they continue to flourish at Dean Court.[LNB] But while majority shareholder Mitchell insists he would never stand in anybodys way, he also says he hopes Howe and Tindall will remain at Dean Court for many years to come.[LNB] Since joining forces following Jimmy Quinns sacking 10 months ago, Howe and Tindall have transformed Cherries from relegation fodder into genuine promotion contenders.[LNB] And while Mitchell rewarded the pair with new three-year contracts on the eve of the season, he knows Cherries could be vulnerable in the volatile world of football management.[LNB] Already this season, Gary Waddock and Mark Robins have been plucked from League Two by higher-division clubs, the former leaving Aldershot for Wycombe, the latter Rotherham for Barnsley.[LNB] And with Cherries exploits under Howe and Tindall likely to have been noted by impatient chairmen up and down the country, Mitchell knows the pair could eventually be coveted. In a candid interview with the Daily Echo, Mitchell said: Ive watched and worked with Eddie and Jason and it doesnt take much to see that their heart and belief are in the job. Their focus is there for all to see and that is reflected by the position we are in.[LNB] I know football managers are reliant on their players as well but, to get the best out of people, you have got to be seen to be dedicated yourself and both Eddie and Jason are very dedicated guys. In my opinion, in time, I imagine they may outgrow the club.[LNB] As a team and as individuals, they are both focused and dedicated and I just feel that somebody will come in for them and take them further than perhaps Bournemouth can. I wouldnt stop anybody progressing, thats for sure, but I wouldnt want to lose them either, thats another definite.[LNB] If that time were ever to come, we would have to weigh up where we were but I can see it happening in the future. I would love Eddie and Jason to remain here in the long term. They are both local and we couldnt wish for anybody better.[LNB] Its easy for people in charge to sit back and let others do the work but I dont see that in either Eddie or Jason. They are always among the first ones to work and the last ones to leave and are great assets to the club.[LNB] My son has been training with the squad and he speaks very highly of them both. I think hes been quite taken aback with the respect they carry with the players.[LNB] You can see they have both got a good head on their shoulders and will only do better for themselves. Hopefully, this club will benefit from having them as our managers for many years to come.[LNB]
