Cherries: Mitchell will try to back Howe in window

EDDIE Mitchell has vowed to try to support Eddie Howe in the January sales but without breaking the bank.[LNB] The Dean Court chairman underlined once again the need for the club to live within its means and promised to avoid a return to the off-field problems that have plagued Cherries' recent history.[LNB] Delivering a New Year message, Mitchell placed a frugal financial approach at the top of his agenda for the 12 months ahead and insisted Cherries would not spend what they cannot afford this month.[LNB] Outlining his hopes for 2011, Mitchell told the Echo: I think it is paramount we stay in this division that's the first thing.[LNB] Secondly, that we carry on building the club. That means everything not just watching the football, but building the club, gaining support and bringing the club back to where it should be after years, I think, of neglect.[LNB] I think the club needs to play sustainable football, without risking its future.[LNB] I would guess that we are in the bottom half of the league's budget and to be in the top half of the table is (down to) the effort from the boys, which we saw on Saturday and Monday.[LNB] He continued: The club has got to live within its means. We've struggled tirelessly for the past 18 months to get it in that situation.[LNB] The board, including Adam (Murry) when he was on the board, stuck together through thick and thin and we've got there.[LNB] We aren't going to put it back to the situation it was in before.[LNB] Mitchell expressed his faith in Cherries' current crop of players and praised the achievements of Howe's fantastic high-fliers, who sit third in League One behind South Coast rivals Brighton and Southampton.[LNB] But there could be room for reinforcements this month if Howe wishes to bolster his resources and it falls within budget.[LNB] The chairman added: If Eddie decides he wants a player and there is money available at the time, then if it is sensible and within our budget we will try to support him.[LNB] Mitchell insists Cherries are in a situation where they are permitted to buy and loan players and that the transfer embargo remains loosened.[LNB]
