Cherries: Mitchell pours scorn on player offer
CHAIRMAN Eddie Mitchell has reported that Cherries yesterday turned down an offer for a member of their sought-after squad.[LNB] Mitchell declined to reveal the identity of the player involved or the interested club but confirmed the bid, which was received late yesterday afternoon, had fallen well short of Cherries' valuation.[LNB] The Cherries chief told the Echo: It is so far adrift (of the valuation), it is really not worth mentioning.[LNB] Cherries' run to the League One play-offs has led to plenty of interest in the club's players.[LNB] Striker Danny Ings has been the subject of speculation, while skipper Jason Pearce was last week heavily linked with a £500,000 move to Peterborough.[LNB] Posh director of football Barry Fry, who says he is keen to revive the deal, claimed Cherries had accepted an offer for the 23-year-old, but Mitchell insisted no deal had been agreed.[LNB] Cherries subsequently discovered that they would have to give 50 per cent of any sale to Pearce's former club Portsmouth, as revealed exclusively by the Daily Echo on Saturday.[LNB] The sell-on scuppered any chance of the defender, who is also understood to be a potential transfer target for Burnley, Ipswich Town and Barnsley, leaving for the reported fee.[LNB]
