Cherries: Mitchell pours cold water on Howe Posh rumours

DEAN Court chairman Eddie Mitchell has scotched rumours tipping Cherries boss Eddie Howe to become Peterborough United's next manager.[LNB] Speculation linking Howe with the post mounted yesterday after he was backed in to 4-6 favourite with bookmakers Skybet to replace Darren Ferguson.[LNB] Howe's odds opened at around 6-1 before a flood of money saw him rocket to the head of the market. Another firm of bookmakers apparently stopped taking bets on Howe.[LNB] But when contacted by the Daily Echo, Mitchell said he knew about the link and confirmed he had not had any contact with Peterborough.[LNB] However, sources close to the Daily Echo claim Posh could make a move for Howe once the dust has settled on Ferguson's departure, with the 37-year-old's exit only confirmed last night.[LNB] Howe and Jason Tindall signed new three-year contracts in the summer and Cherries would undoubtedly command compensation should the pair leave.[LNB] Speaking to the Echo last month, Mitchell admitted the club could lose Howe and Tindall should they continue to flourish at Dean Court.[LNB] Since joining forces following Jimmy Quinn's sacking 11 months ago, Howe and Tindall have transformed Cherries from relegation fodder into genuine promotion contenders.[LNB] And Cherries' exploits under Howe and Tindall are likely to have been noted by impatient chairmen up and down the country, with Peterborough director of football Barry Fry believed to be an admirer.[LNB]
