Cherries: Mitchell can't win whatever Howe decides

Cherries chairman Eddie Mitchell admits continuing interest in boss Eddie Howe leaves him in a no-win situation.[LNB] Mitchell has received criticism from some supporters for allowing Cherries' highly-rated manager to speak to other clubs.[LNB] The Cherries board are currently awaiting a decision from Howe after he was offered the manager's position at Crystal Palace at the end of last week.[LNB] Howe spoke with officials of the south London club after Mitchell had reluctantly agreed an approach, as revealed exclusively by the Daily Echo five days ago.[LNB] Since Howe was made an offer by the Championship strugglers, Cherries have received a second formal enquiry for his services, believed to have come from Charlton Athletic.[LNB] Howe, who is understood to have spoken to Charlton yesterday, is also still in the running for the vacant manager's post at Burnley, with the Clarets possibly preparing an approach.[LNB] Mitchell, who has previously seen Howe rebuff overtures from both Peterborough and Southampton, rewarded both him and assistant Jason Tindall with a three-year contracts in the summer.[LNB] He told the Daily Echo: Eddie and Jason are both prize assets and we are desperate for them to stay with us. Other clubs want our manager because he is very good at what he does and I fully understand the interest.[LNB] Although they are under contract, I would always pass on details about any approaches.[LNB] I have asked Eddie to stay, I would have been stupid not to. He is the best manager outside the Premier League. He is his own man and will do what is best. Like everybody in life, you've got to look after number one first.[LNB] I can only tell him how I feel and I have done that. My advice was to stay with us, see out his contract and wait for bigger clubs to come in and then look at it.[LNB] I have done everything I can. There are always situations in life when people will take stepping stones. If this is the one Eddie decides to take, I hope he makes a success of it but don't want him to go.[LNB] It's his decision. If he decided to go, I would wish him all the best and if, as I hope he will, he decides to stay, I will give him all the support I can.[LNB]
