Cherries: McQuoid is set a fresh target

Cherries boss Eddie Howe wants Josh McQuoid to seize his chance with both hands after offering the young winger a new contract at Dean Court.[LNB] Howe presented McQuoid with the opportunity to extend his stay with the club after announcing his retained list earlier this month.[LNB] The Pennington-raised 20-year-old, a product of the club's youth system under Joe Roach, is one of three players considering terms on a new 12-month deal.[LNB] McQuoid has been on the books for seven seasons and made his league debut as a substitute three years ago before being handed his first start 12 months later.[LNB] However, with 47 of his 65 appearances having come as a substitute, McQuoid has taken a while to find his feet since graduating from the youth ranks.[LNB] He showed glimpses of his rich potential when he played a starring role in Cherries' 1-0 win over Morecambe at Dean Court in March. And he grabbed his maiden senior goal when he came off the bench to score during Cherries' emphatic 4-0 victory over Port Vale a fortnight ago.[LNB] Howe said: I think Josh improved as the season progressed. He worked very hard to improve his game and to try to develop some consistency to his performances. He showed a good attitude throughout the year and next season will be determined largely by how he comes back and performs during pre-season.[LNB] Like with all young players, you want them to come back for pre-season and try to stake a claim for a first-team place.[LNB] Josh was in the frame all season and made a lot of appearances from the bench. The next target for him is to try to be a regular starter.[LNB]
