Cherries: Lovell lambasts ref after penalty rebuff

BOSS Lee Bradbury and striker Steve Lovell rounded on referee Jock Waugh following Cherries' disappointing defeat at Carlisle on Saturday.[LNB] Bradbury and Lovell were both convinced the official should have awarded Cherries a second penalty during the 2-1 reverse at Brunton Park.[LNB] Waugh pointed to the spot after Lovell had been tripped by Jon-Paul McGovern in the 60th minute, allowing Harry Arter to cancel out Tom Taiwo's opener for the Cumbrians.[LNB] But after a Nathan Byrne own goal had restored Carlisle's lead, the Sheffield-based official was unmoved after Lovell had again been sent sprawling 11 minutes from time.[LNB] Bradbury said: Steve has got a stud mark down the back of his calf and Achilles. There was definite contact and it was inside the box. If we had been at home, we probably would have got it.[LNB] Lovell, who was booked for his part in the second penalty incident, made a beeline for Waugh immediately after the final whistle had sounded.[LNB] I wanted to show him my injury, said Lovell. I wanted to show him their player had caught me. He booked me for diving, which was not the case, and I have got the injuries to prove it.[LNB] I just wanted to give him an opportunity to apologise for getting the decision wrong and for booking me when it was not warranted.[LNB] The second one was more of a penalty than the first one. I tried telling the referee but he just ignored me. Sometimes, you wish there was a bit of common sense and that they would listen and talk to players.[LNB] Lovell, who missed the first two weeks of the season with a thigh problem, was given his first taste of action after replacing loan striker Ryan Doble on the stroke of half-time.[LNB] He added: I was glad to be back and it was just what I needed. The only way to get your fitness back is by playing.[LNB] We were disappointed with the performance. Things didn't pan out the way we had wanted and we weren't at the races. We didn't play well but we had our chances.[LNB] Bradbury is hoping to bolster his injury-hit squad after Cherries agreed a fee with a club for an unnamed player at the end of last week.[LNB] But although the two clubs have struck a deal, personal terms could yet prove to be a stumbling block, while at least two other clubs are understood to be interested.[LNB] Bradbury is in desperate need of reinforcements with Marc Pugh, Steven Gregory and Doble all expected to miss Cherries' League Cup clash with West Brom tomorrow.[LNB]
