Cherries: Lovell can't wait to link up with brother Eddie

STEVE Lovell believes his family ties with boss Eddie Howe could lead to a win-win situation for Cherries.[LNB] The striker, who is Howe's younger brother, finally completed a protracted move to Dean Court when he penned a one-year deal on Friday.[LNB] It brought to an end a lengthy pursuit by Howe who had seen his hopes of signing his sibling 12 months ago dashed by Cherries' transfer embargo.[LNB] Raised together in Verwood, the pair were both on Cherries' books as youngsters and have been reunited following an 11-year absence.[LNB] And while Lovell, who had been plying his trade in Scotland since 2002, spent last season waiting to join Cherries, Howe was busy plotting the club's promotion to League One.[LNB] Lovell, 29, told the Daily Echo: I'm absolutely delighted and it has been a long time coming. I have waited more than a year to try to get this move and can't wait to get started.[LNB] You could always see from a young age that Ed would turn out to be a manager. He is thorough, a perfectionist and does everything by the book. I am really proud of him. He had to retire early as a player so managing is a fitting situation for him.[LNB] It is obviously a little bit awkward. First and foremost, he is my brother and now he is my manager so that will be a bit strange. But I'm sure I'll get used to it.[LNB] Even during my short spell here in pre-season we had our fallings-out and disagreements. Being brothers, we are probably going to fall out more![LNB] I know how it is and I know the way he works so I don't expect any special treatment at all. If anything, less.[LNB] He has also taken the time to bring me here so there is pressure on him as well for me to do the business.[LNB] I am not going to want to let down my brother and want to do my best anyway. It's going to be a win-win situation.[LNB] Glasgow-based Lovell, who spent time with Partick Thistle last season, is one of the most successful goalscorers in the history of the Scottish Premier League having enjoyed fruitful spells with Dundee, Aberdeen and Falkirk.[LNB] A free agent before signing for Cherries, he will link up with Howe's squad for the start of pre-season training on July 1, although may not feature in the club's early warm-up games following recent ankle surgery.[LNB] He added: I had an operation about six weeks ago. The ankle had been niggling me for a couple of years and I had a bit of floating bone in there. It has been cleaned out and I couldn't have asked for better rehabilitation.[LNB] I've been off for a couple of months so it's just going to take that little bit longer.[LNB] I'm still a few weeks from being able to kick a ball but should, fingers crossed, be able to play some part in the pre-season games, maybe towards the end.[LNB] ¢ Don't miss tomorrow's Echo for Neil Perrett's full interview with Steve Lovell.[LNB]
