Cherries: Howe's vote of confidence for chairman

CHERRIES boss Eddie Howe has turned the tables on Eddie Mitchell by giving his chairman an overwhelming vote of confidence.[LNB] Howe has defended Mitchell and the Dean Court board in the wake of the club's transfer embargo being tightened by the Football League.[LNB] And although the manager's attempts to bolster his squad have been affected by the decision, Howe says the club is heading in the right direction under Mitchell's leadership.[LNB] Mitchell, who gained a controlling interest in the company when he arrived in June 2009, has often taken his share of criticism from sections of the club's fan base.[LNB] But Howe told the Daily Echo: I don't think people realise the mess the club was in when they took over. It's easy from the outside to criticise when you don't know the facts and don't know how difficult and how much of a struggle it has been to get to where we are now.[LNB] The number of hours and amount of effort that a lot of people have put in to get this club not only standing again but moving forward is considerable and nobody should underestimate the job Eddie Mitchell and his board have done.[LNB] There are going to be little setbacks. They are human and have never tried to be anything they aren't. They have got the club's best interests at heart and that is surely all the supporters want to see. I don't think you can criticise them in any way, shape or form for anything they have done.[LNB] Discussing the embargo, Howe added: We had explored the possibility of bringing in a player but quickly realised that it wasn't going to be an option.[LNB] It's difficult for us. The chairman and the board have worked tirelessly to try to correct the problems from the previous regime but, sometimes, things have been put in our way. It's certainly not ideal when you are trying to prepare a team.[LNB] The Football League are only doing their job but we're trying to do ours and it's a difficult scenario and one that we would like to see an end to. But they are looking after their interests and those of all the other clubs in the league.[LNB] Asked whether he felt news of the embargo being tightened would affect the players, Howe replied: I don't think they look too much into it and would be surprised if they did.[LNB] Anyone who has been at this club for a period of time knows it goes hand in hand. I think we are coming to the end of it and don't think you will see these headlines in the future. It is still difficult though and we are still in a fight to try to move forward. But I think we are doing that quite well.[LNB]
