Cherries: Howe won't break wage structure for new striker

Cherries boss Eddie Howe insists he will not be held to ransom as he continues his painstaking search for a new striker.[LNB] Howe is currently scouring the market for a replacement following the departure of leading goalscorer Brett Pitman to Bristol City earlier this week.[LNB] But despite having some of the sale proceeds at his disposal, Howe maintains any new arrival would have to fit in with the club's wages parameters.[LNB] Under Howe and Jason Tindall, a stringent salary structure has been established at Dean Court as Cherries continue to run a tight financial ship.[LNB] Howe told the Daily Echo: Any player we bring in has to fall within our wage structure and we won't break that for anybody.[LNB] There are financial constraints and the player would have to fit certain criteria.[LNB] It is something we believe in because we don't want disparity among the players. The club has to live within its means and we will ensure that continues to happen.[LNB] If you pay a sizeable fee for a player then they would expect higher wages and that's when difficulties can arise. Any new player would have to fall in line with the others whom have done so well for us.[LNB] The players we have got have been absolutely fantastic for 20 months and have achieved what they have with togetherness and team spirit. We are not going to jeopardise that just for the sake of bringing in one player on higher wages.[LNB] Howe has been weighing up the merits of several targets this week, although he would not be drawn on the identity of any of them.[LNB] However, the Daily Echo understands John Akinde, who was rumoured to be coming to Dean Court from Bristol City as part of the Pitman deal, is not on his list.[LNB] And although the transfer window is due to close on Tuesday with the loan deadline a week later Howe insists he will not be rushed.[LNB] He added: We are on the look-out but there is no immediate rush. We are not going to panic and bring in someone just for the sake of it. We will try to find the right player.[LNB] It's unfortunate that you've got the transfer window and then the loan window shutting soon after because it usually means there is a bit of a scramble.[LNB] I know a lot of clubs are in a similar position and have been looking for a striker all summer.[LNB] The timing is not ideal either. There were a lot of players available in the summer and mostly all of them have been snapped up.[LNB] Now we're coming towards the deadline, it's difficult to identify players who you want and who are available and would come.[LNB]
